Top 10 Movie Choices for 2012

Posted on: January 29, 2012

It’s a brand new year and for all you movie lovers, it means new movies to watch. We’ve got a lot to choose from this year. Action. Adventure. Comedy. Drama. Romantic. Thriller. Horror. Fantasy. You get the picture. Here are the movies I’m looking forward to watching the most this year.

1. Underworld: AwakeningStarring Kate Beckinsale, Michael Ealy, Charles Dance, India Eisley (1/20/2012) After the events of Underworld: Evolution we find Selene imprisoned in cryogenic suspension for 12 years. When she escapes she learns that the humans have discovered the existence of vampires and lycans and are conducting an all-out war to eradicate both species.

When I heard they were making a fourth Underworld movie was I was so excited! My boyfriend and I are huge Underworld fans. We were actually at the panel at Comic Con in 2011. It was so cool seeing Kate Beckinsale. This is gonna be our first movie of the new year.

2. The AvengersStarring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston (5/4/2012) When an unexpected enemy emerges who threatens to take over the world, Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., brings together world’s most mightiest heroes to stop it.

Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye and Nick Fury in one movie, FUCK YEAH!! This is gonna be the ultimate superhero movie. Plus, Joss Whedon is directing it. He created shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, and Dollhouse. I know he’s gonna do an awesome job. This movie comes out the day after me and boyfriend anniversary. Nine years!

3. Snow White and HuntsmanStarring Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Sam Claflin (6/1/2011) Snow White escapes from her evil stepmother and hunted by the Huntsman. The Huntsman takes pity on her and instead of killing her, he takes her under his wing and trains her to fight so she can take back her kingdom.

I love how all the fairy tales like Snow White, Cinderella are getting remade in a way. There are actually two versions of Snow White that’s suppose to come out this year. There’s this version and Mirror Mirror, which is more comedy fantasy. I think that one is suppose to come out in March. Both versions look good but the Huntsman is the one I want to see the most.

4. American ReunionStarring Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Sean William Scott, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, Shannon Elizabeth, , Natasha Lyonne, Eugene Levy (4/6/2012) The American Pie gang from 1999 reunite for their high school reunion. Even though they’re adults now, dealing with every problems since as having a career and raising a family, deep down they are still the same lovable hormonal teenagers we fell in love with.

Finally! They’re actually making a sequel to American Pie, a real one. I hate the crappy straight to DVD sequels they’ve been doing the last few years. This one has the original cast. I remember this came out my freshman year of high school. Who would have thought that screwing a pie would turn into an American classic?

5. The Dark Knight RisesStarring Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway (7/20/2012) The film takes place eight years after the events of The Dark Knight. Not only does Batman have to deal with being chased by the cops, he also has to deal with two new villains: Bane and Catwoman.

The Dark Knight was beyond awesome and Heath Ledger (God rest his soul) was brilliant as The Joker. Bane looks totally bad ass. I heard he and Batman going to have this big fight scene in the movie. I can’t wait to see that. When I heard that Anne Hathaway was going to be play Catwoman, I was a little skeptical. But after watching the newest trailer, where she looks all devious and seductive, I’m thinking, maybe she’ll do a good job after all.

6. The Hunger GamesStarring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz (3/23/2012) Set in the future the Capital selects a boy and a girl from the twleve districts, between the ages of 12-18, to compete in the Hunger Games. It’s a fight to death with only one survivor. Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence) volunteers to take her sister’s place for this year’s match.

Before seeing the trailer I didn’t know anything about the Hunger Games. Afterwards I got curious and started to look up info on the series. And the more read about it, the more I fell in love. I was planning on reading the books before the movie came out but I decided to do it after. That way I can compare the two.

7. The Hobbit: An Unexpected JourneyStarring Ian McKellen, Hugo Weaving, Andy Serkis, Martin Freeman, Cate Blanchett (12/14/2012) This is a prequel to The Lord of the Rings trilogy that follows a young Bilbo Baggins as he is swept into a dangerous but amazing adventure. Bilbo journeys along with Gandalf the Grey and 13 fortune-seeking dwarves. As he travels through the Lonely Mountains, he’ll encounter dragons, giant spiders, a creature named Gollum and find a magic ring.

I remember when I was a kid I watched the cartoon movie of The Hobbit. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Peter Jackson is a genius bringing the Lord of the Rings series to life. It was such an honor seeing him at Comic Con in San Diego last July. I can’t wait to see what he does with The Hobbit.

8. The VowStarring Channing Tatum, Rachel McAdams, Scott Speedman (2/10/2012) Based on true events, it’s about a newlywed couple who were in a car accident that puts the wife in a coma. When she waked up she as no memory of her husband of their life together, so the husband has win her heart all over again.

When I saw this I had to put it on my list of movies to see this year because I am hopeless romantic. I believe everlasting love and finding your soul mate. Can you image having the love of your life not remembering who you are? This is like the ultimate test to see if love really conquers all.

9. Dr. Seuss’ The LoraxStarring Danny DeVito, Ed Helms, Rob Riggle, Zac Efron, Betty White, Taylor Swift (3/2/2012) The story is about a 12-year-old boy, who lives a city that is completely artificially designed except for its people. He sets out to find a real tree, the one thing that could win the heart of his long time crush. While trying to find a seed, he meets the Once-ler, who tells him the story of the Lorax, a strange creature who fights to protect his world.

Seriously, who haven’t read Dr. Seuss when they were a kid?  I remember reading stories, like The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, Hop on Pop, Fox in Socks, etc. The world of Dr. Seuss is so wacky and fun that it will make you feel like a kid again.

10. Rock of AgesStarring Russell Brand, Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige, Julianne Hough, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Tom Cruise (6/15/2012) This is story of a small town girl and a city boy, who fall in love during the rock music era of the 1980s.

I’ve never see the Broadway musical but I heard it was pretty good. You have music by Bon Jovi, Poison, Twisted Sister, Pat Benatar and more.   I love musicals turned films. My favorite ones were RENT and Mamma Mia! I just know it’s gonna be a fun film.

So those are the movies that I believe is gonna do great in the box office. I already watched Underworld: Awakening last weekend (which was awesome and I’ll post up my review on it later) and I can’t wait to see the rest on my list. There were a few others that caught my interest, The Raven, Men in Black 3, The Expendables 2, Brave, etc, but I’ll have to wait and see. I love going to the movies. It’s just a nice escape from life.
